Book Summary:

Barb Every – Wife, Mother, Grand Mother and Great Grand Mother – with all these years and a host of experiences in observing and helping with all sorts of ailments and finding the old remedies of my mother and grand mother often times worked better than the drugs promoted by traditional doctors that only learn prescriptions and surgery in 8 years of Med. School. I started buying health books and monthly news letters by the dozens. When modern medicine nearly killed my dear husband, not once, but two different times, I knew something needed to be done to help others that are being sickened or killed by medicine (poisons). The book “Licensed To Kill” practically wrote itself – it took barely over a week. The title of the book, the names of each chapter just fell into place. Even the cover design of prescription containers was done without much thought on my part. (Divine intervention?) The only addition was Chapter 9, “Here We Go Again”, which personally proved, one more time, what a natural cure (iodine) can do by regulating the pulse, and what medical drugs and procedures cannot do. I'm still reading health books and Newsletters. After all, Natural cures (with no side effects) have been around for literally thousands of years. Drugs and Prescriptions (with many side effects, including death, are relatively new). The Pharmaceutical Companies do not want you well. Why would they? They make their Big Bucks when you are ill and buying their Drugs.

Book Summary:

Is there a 'history' of laughter? Or isn't laughter an anthropological constant rather and thus beyond history, a human feature that has defined humanity ashomo ridens from cave man and cave woman to us? The contributors to this collection of essays believe that laughter does have a history and try to identify continuities and turning points of this history by studying a series of English texts, both canonical and non-canonical, from Anglosaxon to contemporary. As this is not another book on the history of the comic or of comedy it does not restrict itself to comic genres; some of the essays actually go out of their way to discover laughter at the margins of texts where one would not have expected it all – in Beowulf, or Paradise Lost or the Gothic Novel. Laughter at the margins of texts, which often coincides with laughter from the margins of society and its orthodoxies, is one of the special concerns of this book. This goes together with an interest in 'impure' forms of laughter – in laughter that is not the serene and intellectually or emotionally distanced response to a comic stimulus which is at the heart of many philosophical theories of the comic, but emotionally disturbed and troubled, aggressive and transgressive, satanic and sardonic laughter. We do not ask, then, what is comic, but: who laughs at and with whom where, when, why, and how?

Book Summary:

Dr. Brian King is a psychologist and stand-up comedian whose humor therapy seminars are attended by more than ten thousand people each year. In The Laughing Cure, King combines wit with medical research to reveal the benefits of laughter and humor on physical and emotional health. King’s language is humorous and uplifting, and his advice is backed in science. The Laughing Cure features clinical studies and interviews with some of the nation’s top doctors that prove that laughter lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, increases muscle flexion, boosts immune systems, and triggers endorphins. It’s been shown to relieve depression, to produce a general sense of wellbeing, even to make us more productive, loving, and kind. The Laughing Cure presents step-by-step guidance and proven techniques to embrace laughter as both medicine for current conditions and preventative medicine. This highly unique and enjoyable read explains why much-talked about, but little understood methods of therapy like those embraced by acclaimed humor doctor Patch Adams—played by Robyn Williams in a 1998 film—and laughter yoga actually work. Growing up, King wanted to be a stand-up comic; his PhD. was his backup plan. Little did he know, the impact his unique situation would put him in, the way it would allow him to help others. Very few doctors have the ability to heal the way that King does; his method is cheap, easy, chemical-free—even fun. With The Laughing Cure, readers will learn how—and why—laughter saves lives.

The Alaska Gold Rush lasted 40 years, from 1880 to the end of the First World War, and covered an area one-fifth that of the Lower 48 states. Bonfire Saloon is not a work of narrative poetry. It is a book of history disguised as literature. The slang, words, terms, and expressions would be used in a saloon in 1903 in a gold rush. The names of the people are authentic, and the events in the book happened. Bonfire Saloon is a ground-level look at the events and personalities of 39 individuals on a single night in a Nome saloon.
